John Seely

John Seely is an author, editor and publisher based in SW England.

He was a teacher and lecturer for almost 25 years before giving up the day job to become a full-time author. He taught English and drama in schools and colleges in England, Scotland, Indonesia, and Kenya, at all levels from primary to postgraduate.

John’s books are used all over the world. His first title was a book for teachers, In Context, published in 1976. There followed a stream of successful textbooks, such as Oxford Secondary English, The Oxford English Programme, and The Heinemann English Programme. Over the past fifteen years he has written a range of books about language and communication skills. These include The Oxford Guide to Effective Writing and Speaking, Everyday Grammar, and the Oxford A–Z of Grammar and Punctuation. He is Series Editor of the Heinemann Shakespeare and Heinemann Advanced Shakespeare series. He also edits the One Step Ahead series, a range of books about communication skills for everyday life.

He is a former Chair of the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society and Board Member of the Copyright Licensing Agency. He gives workshops and seminars on language and communication skills in Britain and overseas.
